I took these photos in Death Valley in the summer of 2007. The temperature was 126f that day, which gave the sensation of standing in an oven. Such extraordinary circumstances make for a very memorable day. I was living in Las Vegas, working for Joel Robuchon at the time. Death Valley is appropriately named; not a thing moving, not a bird in the sky. I imagine that it would feel similar standing on Mars. There was a tranquility to the quiet there however that I have yet to find elsewhere. A welcome reprieve from the lights and noise of the city 2 hours south.
